Chilean Patagonia: More than Torres del Paine

February 3, 2020

Ok, I’m going to put it in writing to make myself more accountable (that’s a thing, right?) – I am going to try turning more of the ridiculously lengthy thoughts I take in my iPhone Notes app into actual blog posts. For nearly every destination we have visited, I’ve detailed my favorite restaurants, where we… Read More Chilean Patagonia: More than Torres del Paine

3 years ago today, after a raucous going away part 3 years ago today, after a raucous going away party, Brice and I set off on our global adventure. After selling our condo and putting everything in storage, we had a long list of countries we were excited to visit but weren't sure what would happen or where we'd end up.

In our 25 months on the road, we hit 28 countries across 6 continents. While we certainly were ready to slow down and finally be unpacked for longer than a few weeks, I miss our travels nearly every day.

This world is full of so many gorgeous, incredible places and welcoming, wonderful people. And there are so many places we haven't seen yet... as I reminisce via stories and photos, I look forward to all the future adventures yet to be had.

So today, I'm sharing some of my favorites:
Photo 1: Celebrating our 10th anniversary in Fiji
2: Day 1 of our adventure
3: Camping in the Jordanian desert of Wadi Rum
4: Listening to avalanches while hiking the W Trail in Torres del Paine, Chile
5: Seeing the happiest of elephants in Amboseli, Kenya
6: Goofing off at the salt flats of northern Argentina
7: A day of shockingly few crowds to view the Taj Mahal in India
8: An insanely difficult and amazing trek in the Ausangate mountains of Peru
9: Partying at the Untold Music Festival in Romania
10: A two-day horse trek through the beaches and jungles of Costa Rica

We recently bought ourselves an awesome 3-bedroom condo in Park City!

We came to here in June, not knowing how long we would stay or how much we’d enjoy it. Turns out we liked it a whole heck of a lot, so we are here to stay. For the first time in 3 years, we took all our possessions out of storage and fully unpacked.

Excited for a life in the mountains, building a new community and having a garage. 🤗

I went to a great yoga class with @pcyogacollectiv I went to a great yoga class with @pcyogacollective the other night and @ashleybattersby shared some beautiful words about embracing change. The colorful leaves and shifting seasons are a reminder that even when change is hard, it can also be positive and an opportunity for growth.

I reflected on all the changes this year has brought while soaking up the views on my evening hike, and felt so thankful to have landed in such a welcoming, gorgeous little town. 🍁🍂🍁

Park City, just when I think you’ve impressed me Park City, just when I think you’ve impressed me enough, it becomes fall and the colors start popping and I am even more smitten.

Thanks @sarahlynn903 for getting me out early this morning for a gorgeous run! Even with my little tumble, the views were worth it.

We have now visited all five national parks in Uta We have now visited all five national parks in Utah ✅ 🤗plus we got an unexpected visit with the in-laws. Such a fun little getaway to Capitol Reef with one crazy hike along - and through! - Sulphur Creek. So pretty there and not very crowded as far as National Parks go, which is even better.

Oh hello fall! 🍂 We spent a day hiking throug Oh hello fall! 🍂

We spent a day hiking through the Pando Aspen Clone, the world’s largest organism by weight. It’s a crazy 100+ acres of basically one interconnected Aspen tree. All the roots underground are from the same individual tree.

What’s especially amazing is that in fall, the leaves of the whole grove change color at the exact same time. That means when you look out at Pando on the hillside, you can easily tell where there are a few non-Pando shoots. Nature is both weird and amazing.

Sorry for the delayed thank you all for the birthd Sorry for the delayed thank you all for the birthday wishes. Even from Utah, watching and reading about the fires in Oregon has been difficult and so heart breaking. Stay safe. 💜

But in the midst of all that, thank you to everyone for sending me love on my birthday. This past year was weird and eventful. It started off with amazing things like visiting 14 National Parks, backpacking the W Trail in Patagonia, and falling in love with Argentina. And quickly transformed with lots of unexpected changes - trading our nomadic lifestyle and dreams of continuing to live abroad for one of quarantine and a whole new level of uncertainty.

But all that also gave us the opportunity to bond with our friend Maria who graciously took us in all throughout quarantine, made us recognize how much we missed stability and pushed us to move to Park City which we love. It got me hiking all over Utah and even back working in the corporate world.

Not how I expected the rest of year 35 to go but thinking of all the positives that came with it. Here’s to hoping this next year will be one of less stress and anxiety and hopefully still some adventures. 🌟 #HelloYear36

MOOSE!!!! So cool seeing this little family at Blo MOOSE!!!! So cool seeing this little family at Bloods Lake today. The male was massive - those antlers!! - and seemed relatively unphased by all the people gawking and taking photos. Mama moose, with her baby hiding somewhere on the other side of that rock island, was a little more on edge with all of us around. She was definitely keeping her eyes on everyone even while wading in the lake. Impressive creatures for sure.

The smoke from the California fires have even made it hazy way out here. But it was still a beautiful, fun day hiking to the top of both Clayton and 10420 Peaks.

6.3 miles, 1,916’ in elevation gain up to 10,730 feet. 💪🏻

2020 continues to throw all sorts of crazy curveba 2020 continues to throw all sorts of crazy curveballs my way! In yet another big, semi-unexpected lifestyle change, today I became a full-time working woman again.

I am excited to say I’ve joined Effectus Group, an accounting consulting firm, where I will mostly be focusing on helping set up accounting departments at pre-IPO startups.

Best yet, I get to work remotely so the adventures in Park City get to continue.

Here we go🌟
This past week, I helped my parents pack up and sa This past week, I helped my parents pack up and say goodbye to their home in Sherwood as they prepare to move to Idaho.

They’ve lived in that house for over 16 years and in Sherwood for almost 45. Even though that wasn’t the house I grew up in, it was still more emotional for me than I expected - not knowing when I’ll be returning to that area specifically, and removing another tie to Oregon. They transformed the property into a beautiful space and we had so many special memories there.

Even positive changes come with some challenge and heartache moving on but I am hopeful my parents embrace and enjoy this new chapter of their lives!

What an incredible hike - over 15 miles and almost 4,500’ in elevation gain up to 11,750’. It was tough, long and occasionally scary - for me, due to heights; for my friend Kaitlin, due to animals 😂

But it was also some one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve ever done. The colorful wildflowers with the mountains in the background were just stunning. Plus we got a crazy moose encounter and saw lots of cute mountain goat families.

It was a tiring, amazing day and I’m feeling so excited we did it. 🌟
“All trails lead to happiness.” Couldn’t hav “All trails lead to happiness.” Couldn’t have said it better myself. So thankful our path randomly led to Park City, where getting out in the mountains every day has made my heart so happy. Jury’s still out on how my legs feel about it 😂

In a crazy turn of events, even surprising ourselv In a crazy turn of events, even surprising ourselves, we have opted to settle down in Park City! We came for just a 10-day outdoor refresher and ended up falling in love with the amazing mountains, never ending list of hikes and welcoming community. So we figured, what else are we doing? We might as well stay a while!

We have now rented a cute 2-bedroom condo right at the base of Park City Ski Resort, and are gearing up for this to be the longest we will be in one place since 2017 when we left on our global adventure.
