Peru Update

Geez, I am clearly operating on a one-month lag in blog posts.

I don’t know how those serious travel bloggers manage to do blog posts so frequently! (Ok, Brice tells me they aren’t having leisurely mornings just lounging like I have been doing…) I swear, more posts on prior adventures like our amazing week through the San Blas Islands and even some travel tips coming soon!

For the last few weeks, we have been having a great time travelling through Peru. Though, man it is chilly here! While it was initially a nice break from the humidity of Panama, it is now just darn right cold, like we’ve been seeing snow. What makes that most challenging is Peru not having heat anywhere. Even fancy hotels where it gets down to the 30s at night will still not have good insulation or heating. I guess we are real spoiled back home.

So what have we been up to since arriving in Peru?

  • Exploring the parks of Lima, including the fun Magic Water Circuit of fountains
  • Climbing sand dunes and admiring the beauty of the Huacachina desert oasis town
  • Seeing the mysterious Naza Lines
  • Loving Arequipa, the White City of Peru – the sites, the food, the daily sunshine
  • Trekking around the gorgeous Colca Canyon with an overnight stay in a mountain lodge
  • Taking a boat ride on Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable lake with villages of indigenous people living on floating reed islands
  • Hiking to various Inca Ruins then treating ourselves to great meals in Cusco

Today we are off on a 5-day trek around Ausangate, the sacred mountain in the Andes. Day 3 will include the Rainbow Mountain, which looks especially incredible. We will be hiking and sleeping at high altitudes ranging from 11,000 – 15,000 feet and it may get quite chilly at night supposedly. So needless to say, I’m a little nervous. But fingers crossed for good weather, a fun tour group and amazing views!

In the meantime, enjoy some of my favorite photos from Peru so far!
